Raising my boy Oscar while studying Molecular Biology and Genetics in London (UK), that admiration quickly evolved into an uncompromising commitment to their genetic health, daily wellbeing and breed preservation. By day, my professional career keeps me immersed in science, technology and innovation. Because that work sustains my life, Empawrium is completely a labor of love. This allows me to prioritize health testing, quality instead of quantity, flawless socialization, and loving care without ever needing to cut corners, which often happens with commercial breeders and sadly results in sick kittens and heartbroken families paying that hidden cost.

Because of what happened forty-three years ago this month, we now have a breed that captures the spirit of the wild without losing the warmth of a loving companion animal. That didn’t happen by chance. It happened because one woman had the courage to fight for it. Progress isn’t accidental. It’s the result of rigorous standards, careful lineage tracking, a commitment to temperament, and a lot of passion and hard work. And as we continue to refine this breed we honor that original spirit of bold, visionary progress. Jean Mill understood that for this breed to have a future, it needed the legitimacy of a formal registry. By presenting her cats to the TICA Board, she wasn’t just asking for a vote, she was asking the world to recognize the potential of a dream.
That vote in May ‘83 to grant the Bengal “New Breed and Color” status was a pivotal moment. It was the moment the Bengal moved from the fringes of a scientific experiment into the heart of the America. It reminds us that whether you’re talking about community organizing or genetic diversity, the goal is always the same: To leave things a little better, and a little more beautiful, than we found them.

Which Bengal color is your favorite? At EMPAWRIUM, we love them all but focus on browns and snows. Each brings its own beauty and expression to the breed.

Our cattery is intentionally small and primarily wild-type focused, which means we’ve chosen to work within a clear program of brown, lynx, mink, and sepia. This allows us to stay highly intentional with our pairings and consistent in the type we are building.

Browns bring contrast and wild intensity.
Lynx offers softness with striking blue eyes.
Mink and sepia add warmth, depth, and richness to coat expression.

At the moment we do not have Snow Bengal kittens available, though we’ve received a number of inquiries for them.

We are expecting Seal Lynx and Seal Mink kittens mid-summer, and waitlist applications are welcome for those pairings. However, our immediate focus remains on placing the kittens currently with us (6 of our 7 beautifully bred kittens are still available and will be ready to join their families in mid-May. We founded Empawrium in 2011, while living in England. My work in human health sciences brough us the USA, and we have lived between Boston and the North Shore since 2024. We always try to attend shows within a 2 hour drive from our home and look forward to connecting with fellow breeders and cat lovers at the 2026 TICA Northeast Regional in August.
